Origin of eSports

The very first official video game contest was held back in October 1972 at Stanford University's Intergalactic Spacewar Olympics. Students were invited to take part in Spacewar game, whose top prize would be a one-year subscription of Rolling Stone.

In 1980, video game tournaments appeared on TV, when Atari sponsored the Space Invaders Championship. This particular event attracted approximately 10,000 participants bringing the sport into the limelight thus it became a way of life.

The other major eSports games event that took place was organized by Walter Day through an organization called Twin Galaxies in the summer of 1981.
